Risk and Safety Assessment
ENCONET posses extensive expertise related to the analysis of technical systems and man-machine interactions using modern risk assessment methodologies and tools, such as probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), fault tree analysis (FT) and event tree analysis (ET), reliability block diagrams, failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) failure mode and effects criticality analysis (FMECA), and failure mode and cause analysis (FMCA).
Probabilistic Safety Assessment
ENCONET Consulting provides consultancy services in areas such as performance and reviews of
PSA studies, Level 1 and Level 2, Low power and shutdown PSA, and PSA for internal and external hazards, etc. ENCONET contributed to the development of methodologies for many of these. ENCONET staff contributed to numerous international reviews and benchmarking projects related to PSA.
PSA Application for Utilities and Regulators
One of the specific areas of expertise where ENCONET has been active internationally is in PSA applications. ENCONET worked with a variety of organizations in the establishment of condition, but also on actual implementation of PSA applications. ENCONET's expertise in PSA application includes both Regulatory and Utilities perspectives. ENCONET has full capability and hands-on experience with RG 1.174 methods and approaches.
Fire Risk Assessment
The company's expertise includes fire and flood analysis using either traditional methods or screening approaches. ENCONET is a licensed user of the FIVE and COMPBRN codes. We are involved in extending the applicability of the FIVE computer code through applications to specific problems.
Reliability Analysis
ENCONET has extensive capabilities in general reliability assessment, system and facility reliability evaluations, reliability targets and goals, and availability and cost optimizations. This applies to all kinds of energy facilities, industrial facilities and transportation units.
RISK SPECTRUM and PSA Codes
ENCONET is an authorized distributor of
RISK SPECTRUM analysis software. ENCONET provided support to organizations adopting the RISK SPECTRUM code through training and benchmarking. ENCONET is also experienced in the transfer of PSA models from other platforms to RISK SPECTRUM as well as independent verifications of model transfer. ENCONET staff are well experienced users of RISK SPECTRUM and other PSA code packages like CAFTA, SAFFIRE, etc.
Piping Reliability and Component Data
ENCONET maintains extensive data bases on piping reliability, component reliability, etc. The use of data bases is coupled with extensive data collection and processing experience as well as the use of modern statistical methods and approaches including classical and Bayes statistics. The data collection experience includes, in particular, the experience in data collection from raw data sources, but also preprocessed sources (for example, general statistics on certain kinds of incidents). ENCONET developed procedures and software for data collection and analysis for several customers
Thermal Hydraulic Analysis
ENCONET, with its partners, has the ability to perform complex thermal hydraulic analysis, having staff experienced in the use of codes such as MAAP, RELAP, MELCOR, etc. In particular, ENCONET staff is experienced in the evaluation and interpretation of results including their use for proposing necessary modification and changes.
Emergency Preparedness
The experience of ENCONET Consulting includes preparation and review of both onsite and off site emergency plan and preparedness. We have been involved in both the planning and implementation of the EC's
RODOS offsite emergency monitoring system in several countries in Central Europe.
Safety Case Management
ENCONET will, for its customers, take over the preparation of the complete safety case, from the identification of change over analysis to the establishment of documentation and agreements with regulators. For a utility, ENCONET developed the whole set of procedures and programs for the development and maintenance of safety cases, and provided coaching and training for the staff. Other safety evaluations, like the complex and integral safety evaluation of a plant or proposed modification is also within the field of expertise of ENCONET
WPNS Check Lists
ENCONET was the first organization to apply the so-called WPNS (EU's Working Party on Nuclear Safety) Check list to NPPs in accession countries. In this exercise, ENCONET further refined the checklist to assure that all aspects are well covered.
Periodic Safety Review
ENCONET is experienced in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of results of periodic Safety reviews. ENCONET worked with the IAEA and the EC on the development of criteria and practical requirements for a PSR. ENCONET worked on several PSR projects to identify the safety issues which needed to be addressed by utilities. ENCONET is well versed in the prioritization and optimization of measures to be proposed after a PSR.
Industrial and Transportation Safety
As a company specializing in the analysis of complex systems and industries, we are experienced in the use of systematic methods for the identification of hazards. Furthermore, we are able to analyse how these hazards might propagate to real environmental impacts. The
KOVERS code (text in German) is a key element of this capability.
We are knowledgeable on the relevant EC directives, including the Seveso I and Seveso II directives. We see our strength as having the capability to perform an integrated evaluation of both the risk and potential impact of dangerous materials of chemical or radioactive origin.
